Bob Phillips Shining Light Player Scholarship

Awarded to Public Course Junior Golfers, Young Men and Young Ladies Ages 14-19

The St Louis Junior Invitational believes the opportunity for junior golfers to participate in a major junior golf championship should not be driven by their ability to overcome financial hardships to make this dream happen. Many junior golfers, young men and young ladies age 14-19, have a dream of earning a college degree, too.  In most cases, they also share a dream of playing college golf.

The design of the St Louis Junior Invitational was not only to build the best junior golf championship nationally, it was also to afford those players the opportunity to compete at a very low cost, where the investment was attainable by any young player, from any economic-socio level or background. For this reason, the cost of entry is roughly half of similar events across the USA.  In addition, and as important, our goal is to have numerous college coaches onsite each year, watching our players compete in our championship.  Our hope is that exposure to college coaches will increase the opportunity of realizing a dream of being a college student, and possibly a college golfer.

Sample criteria needed to qualify for the scholarship are:

  • boys and girls ages 14 to 19 years old, have just completed high school and not yet attending a college or university
  • player's designated home course is a public golf facility
  • meets player resume requirements exhibiting talent level to compete in a junior golf championship
  • have financial need that would make it difficult to participate in the championship without receiving scholarship monies
